-- Main.RamonaValenzuelaPerez - 2012-06-21 ---+ Proton Detector: Charged Fusion Products Diagnostic Please note that though Florida International Univeristy (FIU) is collaborating with the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) and the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE), this TWiki page is maintained by FIU collaborators (FEPP) and the page is hosted by FIU. Please see the CCFE Information section for the address of the Wiki page maintained and hosted by the CCFE. ---++ %TEALBG% Proton Detector (PD)%ENDBG% The Proton Detector is a charged fusion products diagnostic created to study MHD instabilities. Most of it was designed, built, and tested at FIU. Testing also took place at the PPPL and CCFE. The PD was then installed in the Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak (MAST) to detect protons and tritons emitted from deuterium-deuterium fusion reactions in the plasma during neutral beam injection. The 4 solid-state detector array was mounted to a MAST probe arm so that the diagnostic could be inserted into the vessel at different radial positions (from the center of the tokamak). Analogue voltage signals, proportional to the energy deposited by the energetic ions, were continuously digitized at 60MHz during plasma discharges. Proton and triton pulses in these signals were identified to create pulse height spectra and particle rate plots. We are currently in the process of data analysis. We plan to help create proton and trition emission profiles of the plasma during sawtooth, fishbone, and ELM instabilities; this will include comparision to the MAST Neutron Camera data, Fission Chamber data, and TRANSP modeling. ---++ %TEALBG% FEPP and Collaborator Highlights %ENDBG% Our collaborator Scott Allan is featured during a synopis of a CCFE tour: [[http://rooksheathscience.wordpress.com/2014/01/31/visit-to-culham-centre-for-fusion-energy-2/][http://rooksheathscience.wordpress.com/2014/01/31/visit-to-culham-centre-for-fusion-energy-2/]] Our undergraduate student researchers speak about their summer research experience at the CCFE during the PD installation and data collection: [[http://news.fiu.edu/2013/09/mcnair-students-study-protons-hidden-language-of-train-conductors-in-uk/66638][http://news.fiu.edu/2013/09/mcnair-students-study-protons-hidden-language-of-train-conductors-in-uk/66638]] ---++ %TEALBG% Presentations after Data Collection %ENDBG% High-Temperature Plasma Diagnostics (HTPD) 2014 * June 1st-5th, 2014 * Atlanta, Georgia * Presentation Title (Invited Talk): Investigating Fusion Plasma Instabilities Using Protons * Presenter: Ramona V Perez, Werner Boeglin PPPL NSTX-U Physics Meeting * Monday, December 9th, 2013 * Remote Presentation from FIU to the PPPL * Presentation Part 1: [[%ATTACHURL%/Boeglin_NSTX-U_presentation_Part1.pdf][Boeglin_NSTX-U_presentation_Part1.pdf]] * Presentation Part 2: [[%ATTACHURL%/Boeglin_NSTX-U_presentation_Part2.pdf][Boeglin_NSTX-U_presentation_Part2.pdf]] * Presentation Part 3: [[%ATTACHURL%/Boeglin_NSTX-U_presentation_Part3.pdf][Boeglin_NSTX-U_presentation_Part3.pdf]] * Supplemental: [[%ATTACHURL%/Boeglin_NSTX-U_presentation_supplemental1.pdf][Boeglin_NSTX-U_presentation_supplemental1.pdf]] * Presenter: Werner Boeglin 55th Annual Meeting of the Division of Plasma Physics (DPP) * November 15th, 2013 * Denver, Colorado * Poster: [[%ATTACHURL%/DPP_Poster_PD_111513.pdf][DPP_Poster_PD_111513.pdf]] * Presenter: Ramona V Perez, Douglass Darrow MAST Friday Physics Seminar * Friday, September 13th, 2013 * Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, Culham, England * Presentation: [[%ATTACHURL%/MAST_presentation_091313.pdf][MAST_presentation_091313.pdf]] * Presenter: Ramona V Perez ---++ %TEALBG% Data Analysis Log and Detector Orientations %ENDBG% Please click: DataLog ---++ %TEALBG% Data Collection %ENDBG% Dates * Parasitic Data collection: August 15th -
