About

We were approved as a new AVS Student Chapter on January 30th, 2013. The Chapter, however, is currently no longer active. Please contact Dr. Jin He of the Physics Department if you are interested in reviving the FIU AVS Student Chapter into an active chapter again

AVS Chapters are tailored to provide university students like you an excellent opportunity for career and professional development. They foster an exchange of ideas through discussion and study in a range of science and technology topics related to AVS. Membership in an AVS Student Chapter will give you an extra edge in the job market with the knowledge, experience, and networking you need to begin your career successfully (except from Student Chapter Manual). Our objectives are to:

  • Broaden the awareness of the AVS among the academic and local communities
  • Promote the professional development of its members by its programs
  • Establish interactions between students, other student chapters, the regional chapter of the society, and the national AVS
  • Contribute to the development of science and technical areas relevant to the AVS at the university through activities involving the chapter members
  • Expand the student’s insight of career opportunities.
AVS promotes interdisciplinary networking, basic research, technology development, and commercialization between the physical and natural sciences, engineering fields, and industrial businesses in support of:
  • Advanced Surface Engineering
  • Applied Surface Science
  • Biomaterial Interfaces
  • Electronic Materials/Processing
  • Magnetic Interfaces/Nanostructures
