Proton Detector: Charged Fusion Products Diagnostic

Please note that though Florida International Univeristy (FIU) is collaborating with the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE), this TWiki page is maintained by FIU collaborators and the page is hosted by FIU. Please see the CCFE Information section for the address of the Wiki page maintained and hosted by the CCFE.

Proton Detector (PD)

The Proton Detector’s (PD) data will yield pulse height spectra created by Protons and Tritons emitted from the plasma during Neutral Beam Injection. Validation of the subsequent PD fast ion emission plasma profile will involve MAST Neutron Camera data. Preliminary testing of PD electronics and data acquisition software occurred during neutral beam, toroidal field coil, poloidal field coil, and ELM coil testing in March 2013. Probe head manufacturing and software development will continue to prepare for a July 2013 installation in MAST. Prototype

Installation: January 2013

Comments:

  • Prototype type dimensions fit into RP access cube (reduction in probe head diameter requested for greater ease of installation)
  • Our prototype RP connector may have become distorted during the welding of the connector to the prototype shell (this issue was fixed at CCFE)
  • A dummy RP shaft end was created and sent to FIU to test the fit of the RP connector before bringing the diagnostic for the summer data collection
  • Vacuum vent hole had to be drilled in top of prototype to bake for RP installation (at CCFE)
